At a glance

What you get with our standing seam.

A standing seam roof is made of flat metal panels that run from the ridge down to the eave. Where two panels meet, their edges stand up and snap together into a raised seam. Clips hidden under that seam hold the roof to the deck, so nothing pierces the face of the panel.

Why standing seam in El Paso

Made for a place with this much sun.

  • Nothing for the sun to break down

On exposed-fastener roofs, the rubber screw washers are the part our sun wears out first — they can start failing at 10–15 years. Standing seam has no screws through the panel face.

  • Built for a long life

A 24-gauge standing seam roof typically lasts 40–70 years (industry range, not a warranty).

  • Sheds monsoon rain

The seams stand up above the flat of the panel, so water runs straight down the pans to the eave.

  • Lighter colors run cooler

Light, reflective finishes send more of the sun back. The EPA reports reflective cool roofs can cut peak cooling demand 11–27% in air-conditioned buildings.

Maintenance

Low upkeep, not no upkeep.

With no exposed screws, there's no washer to replace on a schedule. It's still worth a look now and then:

  • Keep valleys and gutters clear of leaves and debris
  • After a big monsoon storm or hail, look over the flashing around vents, pipes and the swamp cooler
  • Something look off? We inspect metal roofs and tell you in writing what it needs

FAQ

Common questions

Don't see yours? Call us — we're happy to talk it through.

What are the downsides of a standing seam roof?

It costs more upfront than an exposed-fastener roof like R-panel, and our snap-lock standing seam needs a roof pitch of at least 3:12. In low sun, some slight waviness can show in the flat of the panel (oil-canning); striated pans help keep it to a minimum. For a home you plan to keep, we still think it's the best roof for El Paso.

Does the metal move with the heat?

Yes. All metal grows a little in the afternoon sun and shrinks again at night. On standing seam, concealed clips hold the panels to the deck without a screw through the panel face, so that daily movement isn't working against exposed screws and washers. On exposed-fastener roofs it is, which is one more reason those screws need checking over the years.

Is some waviness in the panels normal?

A little, yes. Flat metal can show slight waviness, called oil-canning, mostly in low morning or evening light. It's cosmetic and doesn't change how the roof sheds water. Striated pans, 24-gauge steel and a flat, solid deck help keep it to a minimum.

What colors does standing seam come in?

Standing seam has its own premium color range, separate from our 12-color R-panel chart. Ask us, and we'll bring physical chips to your site visit.

Do you install standing seam on commercial buildings?

Yes. We bid 24-gauge snap-lock standing seam for commercial and institutional buildings. Send us the plans and the bid date.
